The life and times of a normal university student

Fourteenth Post

So, "fourteenth" is a pretty weird word as well. I think teens are just weird.
Non-number weird word of the day: Sculpting. It reminds me of the word "squelch", which is also weird. That being said, there are a lot of weird words, some of which I use in papers.
Speaking of papers, I think I must be ill or something. I stayed up until well after 02:30 last night/this morning to finish a paper, but then I woke up all the way only a bit after 08:30... I'm not sure how this is possible. I didn't actually end up finishing the paper until after I woke up, either. I watched three movies, finished crocheting a scarf, and talked to my roommate instead. It was definitely a productive night.
I'm home on break now, which is kind of weird. My house is homey and familiar, but my bedroom is empty, bare, and lonely. Quite honestly, I could make myself at home anywhere that has a couch and an outlet to charge my computer and my phone. But my bedroom isn't quite right. My roommate and I decided that college students don't really have a "home", as the dorm room isn't all that homey (no stove), but the bedroom at home is very un-lived-in.

Thirteenth Post

For anyone who believes in unlucky numbers, this could almost be considered an unlucky post. I'm typing at 01:20, I do have class in the morning-ish, and I also have a five-page paper to write and email before 16:00 on tuesday.
The good news is, nothing particularly exciting happened to me since the last post. I did homework instead of attending a dance that my dorm put on. I did laundry and had to run the dryer cycle twice. I ordered books online for spring term. That was painful, even getting them used on amazon...
Speaking of which, I would urge all of you university students reading this to sign up for a seller account with Amazon.com so that you can get rid of now-useless textbooks without being ripped off by your school bookstore. I sold my old calculus book for a much better price than the bookstore would have given me, I think. Hope. Pray... It's handy, in any case, even if amazon does rip you off on shipping. Also, you can give other poor students a hand and offer them used books for decent prices. (Also-also, you can sell random junk that you don't want for money. It's a good deal.)
I've also heard good things of Chegg.com, for anyone who wants to rent books. I sell my lit books to the campus bookstore during our "sell back" time for a great deal more than they cost me online, but that's just my own little racket. It doesn't exactly work for science and math books.
In other news, I'm crocheting a scarf. It's a very boring scarf. Five feet of white single crochet with no variation. It is, however, a good waste of time. I did that for most of the evening rather than doing homework. There is a bonus feature included with a white single-crochet scarf- the stitches rather resemble storm troopers.

Yes, I did just make a Star Wars reference. Sorry. This was supposed to be a boring blog, but that one will just have to stay.

Twelfth Post

First off, I would like to point out that "twelfth" is a weird word.
Now that I've got that out of the way, we can discuss my exceptionally boring day. I went to work, which was pretty boring, and then I learned that high schoolers and university students move differently. (Quick background note- my university partners with a programme for minorities in poor high schools so that they have a better view of science and math. This includes the high schoolers visiting the science building and doing labs set up by university students.) I was calmly wasting some time at the drinking fountain when I heard the thunder of feet coming around the corner. High schoolers move in packs. I remember this from my own school, when getting into and out of the hall was a tricky proposition because of how tightly they stick together.
University students move as their own particles. They are not really influenced by the other thousands of people moving with them in the same approximate direction. I like this fact of life. I do not like stampeding hoards of high schoolers invading my nice, quiet sojourn at the drinking fountain. So my life was not boring at that moment... Just terrifying. This is why I prefer boring.
I have also been half-asleep since 15:00. I nearly fell asleep in class, and then I've just been completely out of touch with what other people are trying to say. I perhaps should have taken my roommate's advice sooner than I did.

Eleventh Post

This is the 11th post. It is not on the 11th day of the month. It was not posted at 11:11, nor even in the 11th hour. It will be posted soon after 01:15 on the 22nd of this month. Nothing to get excited over.
Today, I was sitting in the dining hall and I overheard someone make a joke which included a sexual innuendo. It was kind of quiet- as quiet as a university dining hall ever gets at dinner time- and some people laughed. However, this joke-making person was not a quiet person. She is a very loud person. In my experience, it is not "always the quiet ones" who make dirty jokes into silences, it's the crude, noisy ones. I'm a quiet one. I do not say anything into silences, much less make crude jokes.
Also today, just now, in fact, my roommate told me to go to bed because I have work in the morning and must get up early for it.
So I will take her advice. Goodnight, readers.

Tenth Post

This blog is now in the double digits. We should all be pleased.
Today, I went to work. It was, as usual, boring. Washing dishes is always boring, especially at 09:00.
I also got the vaccine for H1N1, which was less than exciting. It was in nasal spray form. I hate needles, which is why I will never get a tattoo. I wouldn't mind having a tattoo, but I could never bring myself to be stabbed over and over again on purpose.

Ninth Post

The only thing worse than a paper with three pages to go is a paper with about five lines to go, but no more ideas. Welcome to the story of my essays. I'm fairly certain that I'm now an official student, having fought to the death with a five-page book review on a 500-page book. At midnight.
The hall restroom has been in an uproar because someone, possibly a custodian, stole our trash bin. The sewers in our city will probably be full of dental floss now... I blame the custodians for the chaos that will ensue.
Today, I realised that one of my plants is probably dead. It hasn't put out growth since the beginning of the school year and feels rather rootless. It's still green and fairly healthy-looking, which is why I've kept it, and will continue keeping it until it turns brown and looks dead.
My roommate insists that I recycle. I don't really want to recycle, but hey, whatever keeps her happy works. It's not as though I have a moral opposition to recycling.
At this very moment (00:18), I am watching Pirates of the Caribbean. Will I finish it tonight? Probably not. It is, however, one of my favourite movies. I believe that one can come up with a quote for any situation from any of the Pirates movies.
This is starting to seem like I have an almost-MLIA-worthy life, so I'll stop talking about it. It would be a shame to put a black mark on my record of boringness.

Eighth Post

We had a holiday here. I slept in until 13:00 instead of getting up and doing homework. Also, I sat around and stayed out of my roommate's way while she cleaned and redecorated almost frantically out of sheer boredom.
It is my intention not to put on socks today, thus having a "sockless day." A friend from home and I were always excited to have one (no, we didn't have lives before college, either), and it's hard to have a sockless day when you have to walk five minutes to get to food. Today, however, I have food in my room.
Anyone thinking about college as an epic, harry potter-filled time of nerf guns and frisbee games is wrong. Just give up to boredom now. It's easier that way.
